Nord Security Expands ISO 27001 Coverage Across Business Tools

Nord Security has confirmed that four products in its business security suite now carry ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, the internationally recognized benchmark for information security management. NordLayer, the company's network security platform, and NordPass, its password manager for organizations, have renewed certifications they first earned in 2021. They are now joined by two newer additions to the suite: NordLayer Intelligence by NordStellar, a threat exposure management platform, and NordLayer Browser, an enterprise browser, both certified for the first time.

What ISO 27001 Actually Verifies

ISO 27001 is not a marketing badge. It is a formal standard that sets out requirements for building, running, and continually improving an information security management system, or ISMS. The framework is built around three principles: confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. Meeting it requires an organization to document how it identifies risks, controls access to sensitive information, responds to incidents, and reviews its own practices over time. Certification is awarded only after an independent auditor examines these processes firsthand and confirms they meet the standard's requirements. In this case, the audits were carried out by SERTIKA, an accredited certification body, and according to Nord Security, no nonconformities were identified across any of the four products - auditors issued only recommendations, a notably clean result.

Why Certification Matters for Business Customers

For companies evaluating security software, independent certification serves a specific function: it reduces the need to take a vendor's security claims on faith. Businesses handling sensitive data, particularly in regulated sectors like finance, healthcare, or legal services, often require their software vendors to demonstrate compliance with recognized frameworks before signing a contract. An ISMS certified under ISO 27001 signals that a vendor has formal processes for managing access controls, encryption practices, incident response, and employee security training, not simply a product that works as advertised. For a password manager like NordPass, this is especially relevant given that it stores credentials that, if mishandled, could expose an entire organization's systems. For a network security platform like NordLayer, which governs how remote employees connect to company resources, the same logic applies to traffic control and access management.

A Growing Suite, A Consistent Standard

The certification news also reflects how Nord Security's business offering has expanded. What began with NordLayer and NordPass has grown into a five-product suite, now including NordLayer Intelligence, NordLayer Browser, and the recently launched NordLayer AI Scout, an AI visibility and security tool introduced in October 2026. Bringing new products under the same certification umbrella as established ones is not automatic; each must undergo its own independent audit. Andrius Buinovskis, the company's VP of product strategy, framed the renewal as evidence that security practices are built into the suite's architecture rather than added after the fact, noting that clients can expect every product in the portfolio to be held to the same standard regardless of how recently it launched.

The Broader Stakes

Enterprise security tools sit in an unusual position: they are meant to protect against the same kinds of breaches and data exposures that, if present in the tools themselves, would be a far graver failure. As organizations extend remote access, adopt AI-driven monitoring, and manage browsing environments for distributed teams, consolidating these functions under one vendor's suite increases convenience but also concentrates risk. Independent certification processes like ISO 27001 do not eliminate that risk, but they provide a documented, third-party-verified account of how a vendor manages it, which is the closest thing the industry has to an answer for the inevitable question: who is watching the watchers?
